Abstract: In a scaled Scrum environment(multiple Scrum teams on same product), cross functional feature teams are generally considered a superior practice to component teams. However, feature teams do have drawbacks that need to be mitigated, such as the loss of people specializing in the same skill working closely together (waterfall skill silos, single function teams like testing, requirements, etc). One of the ways to ensure the sharing of great practices, light standardization, and cross team coordination, is via Communities of Practice. This is a 16 slide presentation I gave to a client of mine about Communities of Practice to help them with their scaled Scrum efforts.
